Stefania Fernandez crowned Miss Universe 2009

Sun Aug 23rd, Miss Venzuela (Stefania Fernandez, 18) was crowned Miss Universe 2009, can we pick them or what! Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee de la Cruz, was the runner up. The decision was made by a twelve person panel that included Andre Leon Talley, the editor for American Vogue, actor Dean Cain, and Supermodel Valerial Mazza.

The event included performances by Flo Rida, David Guetta, Kelly Rowland, and to be brutally honest a little disappointing lip performance from Heidi Montag. We were expecting a little more from her. If stuff was going on behind the scenes that we were unaware of then we understand otherwise, sorry.

The 58th Annual MISS UNIVERSE competition was hosted by Billy Bush and Claudia Jordan LIVE from Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas on Sunday, August 23rd on NBC and Telemundo at 9pm / 8pm Central. There were 84 delegates that have been previously narrowed down to the top 15 delegates.

Since this is a voting site, our initial hopefuls of the night were Miss Australia and Miss Venzuela.

Background:
Miss Universe is an annual international beauty contest run by the Miss Universe Organization.

The contest was founded in 1952 by California clothing company Pacific Mills. The pageant became part of Kayser-Roth and then Gulf and Western Industries, before being acquired by Donald Trump in 1996.

Along with its rival contests Miss World and Miss Earth this pageant is one of the most publicized beauty contests in the world.
